Should you Start Martial Arts Because of Anime?

Hi Guys, it's L, aka the gal who writes these things, and I have a bit of a weird topic for you all... I hope you find it interesting.

So I am 8th kyuu (soon to be 7th kyuu) in Karate and I wanted to talk about starting a martial art because of anime. When I decided to join a club, anime was an influence in making me think about starting.

First things first, you have to be dedicated. Martial arts take a lot of energy and effort, you ache the day after and you can break things, accidents do happen. You have to be willing to train hard.

My next point is, it isn't like you see in anime. I mean you do become stronger and faster but you aren't suddenly invincible and you are unlikely to become a black belt as fast as you think. Sadly, we live in the real world where things can hold us back.

Point number Drei (3) when you work hard at it, martial arts looks awesome. A sparring session is honestly a sight to behold. From my experience, the amount of respect in something so aggressive makes it look like a real anime fight scene. Some martial arts also do weapons training which is pretty awesome.

Coming in at number 4! When you train in martial arts you aren't some weapon who can kill with a click of their fingers. You are still human, however you can seriously hurt someone because you know how to use your body. You should not use martial arts against an opponent outside of clubs and competitions. Don't use what you know like they do in anime because it is dangerous.

My final point. If you got this far without deciding martial arts isn't for you then I say give it a go! Whether you want to be a weapons master like Erza or adorable but strong like Honey (and me haha) if you still want to do it, do it.

I love Karate, it hurts and it's tiring but I always leave smiling. You feel like you could be in ninja training or preparing for that final battle. It's such an empowering feeling to know you will gain from all the sweat and training.

I feel a lot of people wanting to do martial arts because of anime don't know enough about it and often end up dropping out. Whatever you guys do, I hope you stay happy and healthy!
